This article discusses the importance of preventative or upstream interventions from the perspective of pre-term births and their prevalence in the United States. Authors identify techniques such as choice-architecture to adjust patient behaviors towards predefined optimums, commitment devices and reminders as programmatic tools to ensure predefined choices are adhered to and carried out, and social media and other messaging tools to create ‘social proof’ to steer client behaviors.
